Helen and Albert Powell

During many years as an Earth Science teacher with Montgomery County, I took advantage of the learning opportunities offered by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. I took several one-day classes on the Stanley Norman, during which we learned about the ecology of the Bay, how the Bay has changed over time, and what is being done to restore the Bay to the way it once was. I also arranged opportunities for my middle school students-some of whom had never been to the Chesapeake Bay-to participate in field trips on the Stanley Norman, which was something that they found interesting, worthwhile, and enjoyable.

One summer, I spent a week sailing on the Stanley Norman with other teachers. We learned more about the Bay, and how we could incorporate information about the Bay into our curricula.
